The Origin
Let the
burning go
This is a safe place to set it down.
Beautiful Rootz Botanicals started long before me with my grandmother.
My grandmother Irene Fuller had names for things. She looked at me and called me Gheechie Gurl. She saw old ways in my face. I never got to ask her what she meant. When I became a grown woman, I learned about Gullah culture and history. My heart knew she was seeing her ancestors in me.
My father didn't grow herbs, but he gave me nature. He often took me to Fairmount Park when I was a little girl, and that's where my love for being outdoors began.I had a praying grandmother. When I had a cold she'd wrap a cut-up onion in a sock around my neck to draw it out. She made fish and herb head soup for healing to feed the body back to life when something was ailing you. Period. That's what was in the pot.
She didn't call it herbalism. It's called Working The Roots.
My grandmothers were my first teachers. My great-grandmother Cora Bullock grew herbs and vegetables. I'd walk behind her with a basket, hands smelling like soil, learning which leaf to pull and which one to leave alone. I didn't know it was planting something in me that would wake up years later when I needed restoration the most.
Working The Roots
Remembering what
was already there
The plants were always waiting.
Years later, after I was diagnosed with lupus, I started reaching for plants on my own. What was already in me led me. Years later, a dear beautiful friend, my brother, my supporter, and family in every way that matters — asked me to find an herbalism class for us to take together. That shared step opened a door in me and helped guide me deeper into the herbal path I walk today.
It felt like remembering.
These herbalists shaped my path. Plant Mama Alchemy was my first teacher. Then I studied under Iwilla Remedy, Professor of African American Herbalism. Also my teacher and mentor, Empress Karen M. Rose, Author of Art + Practice of Spiritual Herbalism and Owner of Sacred Vibes Apothecary. I am a student in her Sacred Vibes Apprenticeship Program, deepening my work with plant medicine and my study of spiritual herbalism.
Beautiful Rootz Botanicals is an ancestral-rooted herbalism brand built on education, integrity, and right relationship with plant allies. With years of study and practice, this work bridges everyday wellness with earth-based and ancestral wisdom — honouring healing as a practice, not a performance.
I learned to listen to my spirit — my Ori, my inner knowing — and to honour my ancestors while I work. It was in the soup. In the sweat. In the tears I cried when my body was breaking. I inherited my grandmothers' knowing and a spirit that remembers how to root.
Rooted in Transformation
Beautiful Rootz Botanicals was born from a season of profound change.
What began as a search for balance became a journey back to myself. Through spiritual herbalism, time in nature, and a deepening relationship with my ancestors, Ori, the Orishas, and the wisdom of the plants, I discovered that healing is not something we force—it is something we cultivate through presence, patience, and relationship.
Each cup of tea, each tincture, and each moment spent sitting with a plant reminded me to slow down, listen, and trust the rhythms of the natural world. The plants became teachers of resilience, boundaries, gentleness, and renewal.
Beautiful Rootz Botanicals is more than a collection of handcrafted herbal offerings. It is a reflection of my own transformation and a commitment to honouring ancestral wisdom, intentional living, and the sacred relationship between people and plants.
My hope is that these botanicals encourage you to create your own moments of stillness, connection, and grounding. Whether you're beginning your journey or deepening an existing practice, may every bottle and every cup serve as a reminder to return to yourself.

Rooted in Tradition
A note from Tameka
The reasons that drew me to plant medicine are deeply rooted in my African American context. You need to tend to family traditions, shared stories, community ties, and the everyday acts of care that make us whole.
Beautiful Rootz Botanicals is my way of honouring those connections while continuing to learn, grow, and share what I have been so blessed to receive.
